Environmental policy and economics

Environmental and natural resource challenges are caused by human activity and government policy. Environmental policy and economics helps to use and manage finite resources in a manner that serves the population while meeting concerns about environmental impact.

Experts of the AAPC have experience from a range of environmental policy (mostly related to the EU approximation) studies in Lithuania, Cyprus, Croatia, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Western Balkan countries and Turkey in developing environmental financing strategies which include financing demand and supply analysis, preparation of municipal investment programmes and affordability analysis. They have also been involved in reviews of environmental investment funds, water pricing and cash flow analysis in CEE countries, development of environmental indicators in the Baltic States, developed and presented training workshops on EU environmental policy, project preparation, economic and financial analysis and institutional considerations. Have been working intensively on the preparation of feasibility studies for the EU ISPA / Cohesion funds and other financing institutions in compliance with EU/IFI funding requirements, especially focusing on financial economic analysis. Recently focus is on the implementation of the Water Framework, Marine Strategy Framework and other water sector Directives and performing ex-ante and ex-post assessments of Cohesion Fund and Structural Funds projects in environmental sector.
